jurindel who wanted ClowxYue which I sadly couldn’t pull off. :| Sorry. And it’s not exactly about the prompts you wanted either. I fail. D: Anyway, I managed to bring in the “farewell” theme. Kind of. Argh... Forgiiiive meeeee~! ;_;
Time Is Worth More Than Two Pence.
The air is warm, dry and smells of burnt dust. A fire crackles quietly, and every other minute the sound of wood breaking and snapping reverberates through the room. Candles are lit, and their soft glow is caught by the crystal drops that are hanging from the chandelier, swinging slightly, and deflected everywhere, broken by the prisms and split in all the colors of the rainbow. From somewhere the measured ticking of a clock can be heard.
Yue tears his eyes away from the flames that are licking at the logs in the fireplace, caught in their endless dance of swaying and flickering, and curls up into himself a little bit tighter. He tries to look at the man sitting on the other side of the room, but his vision is blurry and dotted with green spots so he just closes his eyes. The leather of the armchair creaks faintly as he shifts and huddles deeper into his blankets. Kerberos’ soft breathing that Yue can rather feel than hear is about to lull him to sleep when a heavy thud breaks his doze.
He blinks drowsily and catches sight of Clow staring out the window, a closed book lying in his lap. The pages look torn and frayed around the edges, and Yue wonders briefly what Clow has been reading when a gentle voice reaches out to him and slices through the silence that isn’t really silence.
“Yue, look how peaceful nature lies there.” Clow stretches a hand towards the snow that is wrapping the world in a smooth white blanket, his eyes following the snowflakes that are trailing down. As Yue looks outside the only thing he sees behind the glass is the skeleton of a tree, standing out gnarled and black and dead against the gray sky.
“I think it’s more peaceful in here,” he murmurs.
Clow chuckles quietly as he turns his eyes to Yue. “ You might be right after all.”
Yue frowns, question evident in his thoughtful gaze.
“You know, Yue, you have to hold onto it,” Clow says as he stands up and crosses the room in three slow strides, “Onto this. Onto time. Because all it does, is tick and bleed and pass.”
He smiles as he crouches down in front of Yue. When Clow begins stroking the long silver hair, his hand is steady, but Yue feels the tremble anyway. He draws his brows together in confusion, deepening the creases on his forehead.
“But...-” “So you’ll have something, anything, when it’s farewell,” Clow cuts him off gently.
Yue’s eyes widen slightly. “But-” “Shh, for now just hold onto it.” And with that Clow rests his hand on Yue’s arm, and Yue remains silent. But only for now because Clow can be sure that Yue won’t let him off the hook this easily.
