Title: Roll The Titles (Say Goodnight)
Author:
urania_chan
Supernatural, gen
Summary: The deal is coming due and Sam knows, when Dean isn't here, he could very well be in hell.
Notes: Title taken from the song “Killing Time” by The Donots.
And be warned, this is my first SPN fanfic, and I rushed writing it a little 'cause I wanted to finish it before the season finale. And so it's also unbeta'd. I'm sorry. But if anyone'd like to point out mistakes or beta it, I'd very much appreciate it.
Feedback: is adorable and makes me smile. ♥
Disclaimer: Not mine, not making money with this.
Roll The Titles (Say Goodnight)
Dean disappears two weeks before his deal comes due.
Well, he doesn't disappear. In fact he's still very there (somewhere), but to Sam it's all the same. Because when Dean isn't here (with Sam) he could very well be anywhere (in hell), and so, yeah, it doesn't make a difference.
---
The woman greeting him has curly black hair and a smile that is all teeth. Dean watches her Creole earrings flare golden in the light of the dying sun as she explains how simple it really is.
“Don't worry,” she says and strokes his hair, “we'll have you out of this deal in no time.”
Dean's voice is nothing more than a sleepy murmur when he asks, how she knows.
“I'm amazing like that,” she answers, and Dean believes her.
---
When he's still alive fifteen days later (free) and Sam's standing beside him (staying), that's all he could ever ask for.
---
They're drunk, but that's okay, they're allowed to. They've been victorious. One of them escaped hell (both of them really) and if that's not a reason to celebrate, then what is?
They laugh till they're dizzy, and then they laugh some more.
“I can't believe all we had to do, was shoot the bitch,” one says.
“I can't believe this woman just gave you the Colt. I can't believe, she had the Colt in the first place,” says the other.
A smile reflected in the green bottle glass. “Yeah, sometimes life's amazing like that.”
---
They don't talk about Dean's deal. Like it was just another nightmare. Maybe it was. And now all that's left to do, is dream.
---
Sam gets fidgety every time they're in California. Dean knows why. And when Sam says Please, Dean's standing beside him.
It's not settling down, Dean tells himself, he just waits for Sam, and in the meantime he'll just try holding one job down. To see if he can. It's just an experiment (but really, he's staying).
Forty years later and with children giggling in their yard, he decides, yeah, he probably can.
---
The dust is dancing in the sunlight shining through the broken window panes. In the far corner of the room a mouse is scurrying around, searching for food (living).
Dean is too pale for someone who has enough blood left in him to be alive. (Praying, God, please, no) Sam cuts the ropes with shaking hands.
---
“Hello, Dean. We've been expecting you.”

A/N: Somehow I just had to write this. The idea wouldn't let me go. But now that I wrote it, the idea seems kinda obvious to me. Hmm...
