Title: Should Have Been

Summary: It was Christmas. Or at least it should have been.
Notes: For my dearest Aki (isegrim_chan) because she wanted a “Die Frisur” character insight thingy with the prompts Christmas and cookies.
It came out rather depressing and short. I don’t know why, I swear. D:
And whoever gets by what this was inspired will get a cookie. :)
Should Have Been.
Chase dully stared out of the plain window that maybe should have been decorated with Christmas lights, and watched his breath fog on the cold window pane.
Almost trance-like he stirred sugar into his coffee that maybe should have been tea that smelled of cinnamon and cardamom and honey. Maybe he should have heard that shrill noise that a spoon and a porcelain cup made when they clinked together, but all he heard was the soft scrape of plastic against styrofoam.
As he waited he took another bite of the old, dusty cake that maybe should have been cookies glazed with chocolate and coated in sugar sprinkles.
He stared at his cell phone. It didn’t ring.
He checked his pager. It didn’t even make the faintest noise.
Chase sighed. He would have welcomed the distraction that maybe he should have loathed because it was Christmas and he wanted to be left alone, thank you.
As he chewed on another bite of cake that he didn’t taste, Chase briefly thought of the beach and barbecue and the sound of laughter. With a sigh he shook his head, and went to buy a pack of cookies.
