This is a typical "Is it me or the others?" entry.
Okay, so recently I met quite a lot of new people due to moving away and studying and such, and getting to know people is interesting. And I don't just mean their names and likes and stuff, but the way those people are. I talked with a few, had debates on principles and came to a conclusion that I find weird. And I don't even know how to put it. Okay, so let me try...
A lot of those people I know (at least 90% I'd guess) have a lot of things they "just don't find interesting" or "don't care about". And they have lots of things they don't care about.
And now my question is simple: How can that be? How can you find anything too boring or beneath you to care about it or think that you could find it interesting? How can you say "physics is boring"? Because it's a huge subject! You can't ever really grasp all of it, so how can you just say "It's not interesting?".
Phew, this is really hard to put into words. :/
Anyway, it's just, there's NOT ONE THING that I don't care about or which I couldn't care about. I've thought long and hard about it, and I haven't found one.
When we talked about it, they all shrugged off so many things which I liked or said found interesting as boring, it just puzzled me.
They don't care about this, they don't care about that.
I find this very weird. And now I ask myself, it is unusual or something to find pretty much everything interesting on some level?
Uhm, so did any of you at least understand my thought? xD They're such gibberish...
On a totally unrelated note: Only two more day till the skijumping season starts! Yaaaay~! ♥

I thought about it a while and try to explain my explanation: :D Weird sentence...
I see it like that:
Saying "I don't find it interesting." or "I don't care." is an easy way to change the subject.
I don't think people generally mean it like that. They just want to talk about something they can talk more about.
It's just a way of saying "I have no real knowledge about that and since I don't want to look dumb, let's talk about something else!"
And some people also have reasons like: "I won't get it anyway, it's so complicated." or "Why should I know about that, I won't need it anyway." The first ones are just covering up self-sonsciousness and the others ignorance.
And there is also the matter of taste and people's will to talk about their favourites (because we are all a little bit self-centered ;P). I.e.: person A loves science fiction movies - the person B Rosamunde Pilcher-dramas. And suppose they both go "Ewww, noooo. Change the subject before he/she jumps in my face with that stuff!" :P
And some things just never interested people as such because someone might have "ruined" it for them (a boring teacher, for example). A spark and then they'd probably be all over it.)
Does this make sense?

Aber hat denn nicht jeder einfach Dinge die ihn nicht interessieren? Kann sich ja schließlich nicht jeder für alles interessieren..

Anyway, I understand what you mean completely, but I partly understand those people too. I agree with what darth_funk wrote - it's not really that physics is boring itself, but the way it's presented definitely is. Before reading this, I never actually thought of it that way, for me it was something so abstract and incomprehensible that I simply didn't bother with it more than I was forced to. The way they present it to us in school is just stupid - a bunch of formulas you MUST learn, because you MUST get good grades, because you MUST be good at school and so on. Maybe it's the MUST that bothers us and makes all the subjects sort of repulsive, although they might not be - but we just don't see that. Maybe they should teach us only the stuff we actually need in everyday life and make us WANT to learn it, because we would know it's good for us. But (at least at our school) we keep learning things that we know we'll never need again, and forget them immediately after an exam or something. That's just sad :(
What bothers me as well is that some people think like this about everything. A perfect example is my mum: she doesn't care about anything, it's meaningless to bother about anything, blablabla. She keeps asking me what difference does it make if Hilde's (sorry, a stupid example XD) good at a competition or what's in it for me and so on. Like there HAS to be something in it for me directly, it's just something that makes your day a little less dull or gives you some inspiration that hard work does pay off, ... If you don't care about anything, why should you even bother breathing, maybe the best thing to do would be just to die - than you'll never have to care again :S
So, I think it's not you, there are just two kinds of people in this world - those who don't give a crap about anything and those who find joy in little things, which make them happy - and even if it's for an hour only, I think it's worth it. So you just keep caring ;D We love you that way :)
